Is there a finer way to spend a week off, than to go camping? That was rhetorical, because of course the answer is no, – no there is not. And in this article, we are going to explore what it is that makes camping so great, with a focus on the major health benefits. Of course, camping is a huge amount of fun, but why is it so good for us? (Not to mention how affordable camping is, – rather than spending out more than you can afford for a holiday abroad)
1 – Fresh Air
If you live in the city then there’s a good chance that you’re breathing in dirty, polluted air on a daily basis. You don’t realise it, but it’s actually terribly bad for you, particularly your state of mind. Once you set food into the great outdoors and you’re surrounded by nothing but green and blue, you’ll notice a chance in your mood instantaneously. That’s because your brain functions much better with all of the oxygen around you and releases more serotonin (which essentially makes you happier by reducing your stress levels) Perfect!
2 – Socialise
Living in the big city can be lonely. You go from A to B and rarely speak to anyone in between. Perhaps you go to work and keep your head down so that you can get home and relax, ready to start it all again the next day. In addition to that, how much time do you really get to spend with your family and friends? The beauty of camping is that when you go with your friends and family it can be an incredibly social experience. Sharing good food, great conversation and sitting around a campfire is one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling experiences.
3 – Exercise
Sure, going on holiday to chill out by the pool is always nice, but when you go camping you can get a decent amount of exercise, whilst also having lots of fun. You go on nice long walks, swimming in the lakes and rivers and lugging all of that firewood around is thirsty work as well.
4 – Vitamin D
Get some sunshine in your life! Camping is the perfect excuse to spend most of the day outside in the sun. Of course, remember to stock up on sunscreen and to bring a hat so that you don’t punish your skin too much!
5 – Zero Stress
When you’re camping there is quite literally nothing to worry about. Sure, you need to stock up on firewood, but you can take in turns doing that. And then there’s the issue of deciding on what delicious food to eat next, or whether you should have another beer…but other than it’s pretty zen.
6 – Healthy Foods
Rather than sitting around eating rubbish and grabbing takeaways, you have a great opportunity to indulge in some good healthy wholefoods. Cook some wonderful meats over your fire, bring plenty of fruit and veg and indulge in a healthy week away from all of the nonsense.
